29 Ways to Stay Creative..

Every other day I get messages/emails about what I do & what industry I am I as there is mixed messages ~~because I wear a suit & suits are boring?~~

Well I’m not in a creative industry. I am in ~~one of the many sub-segments within~~ the IT industry. To be specific I work for an organisation that prides itself on “thinking different” ~~their impartiality when it comes to helping clients make a decision via various projects & most importantly~~ via people that are passionate about what they do. Sure there are days when I feel like head butting the wall, but that is life.

But what I do is “industry” transferable - in fact that would be my goal as I would suffocate otherwise.

So what is my skill set? I manage relationships & more importantly expectations both internally & externally. I may not be right all the time, but I act on what I have available at any given time.

How did I get here - there is no one way as we all come from different demographics. What I can say is that to manage relationships & expectations one needs to be “aware of the context & the implications”.

Awareness is something I talk about quite frequently in real life as this is where society is in my opinion falling apart.

People no longer have “role models”.

People today have too much information at hand - which has their positives, but the negatives are highly “educated” people with no first hand experience.

A lot of people are afraid of making mistakes - this is an issue. As it is only through making mistake do we learn & push ourselves to be better.

So do I dream or want to be in some form of creative role? Yes I do, but then I think how would things be different?

Would I be a better person?

Would I think different if I was in another industry?

In summary, my best answer is it is up to the individual to make what of there current situation & not lose sight of asking questions & finding an outlet to express their creativity.

For me, I would be lost in the creative industry as my mind is actually quite structured & my approach also is quite process driven.

For now, I need to have the safety net of my current role to have the flexibility to express my creativity through different mediums such as the bRog which is an extension of what is in my mind & how I see the world.

Also, nothing is yours until you change it.

& you don’t have to be in a “creative” industry to be CREATIVE..

The rise of low-cost, hacker-friendly electronics is fueling a new wave of hardware hobbyists. Using programmable boards like the Arduino and dirt-chip computers like the Raspberry Pi, you can build everything from your very own supercomputers to an internet-connected beer fermentation refrigeration system.

But Belgium startup called Circuits.io wants to take this trend even further. It wants to give you the power to build your own custom circuit boards.

Historically, that’s been expensive and difficult for hobbyists to do, but Circuits.io wants to change that by offering a web-based circuit board design system made especially for hobbyists complete with library of open source component designs. And soon it will also offer a CafePress-style print-on-demand service for circuit boards.

Thanks to Arduino kits and the Raspberry Pi Linux computer, computing now can cost less than LEGOs. So today’s kids — and a generation of enthusiast hackers — are creating a movement that might incubate the next Woz. What will cheap computing build?

The cost of a Raspberry Pi computer you can buy today is $25. It has a 700 MHz CPU with 256 MB RAM.   In 2001, the Power Mac G4 Cube, with 450 MHz CPU with 64 MB RAM, cost $1,799. That is how much hardware prices have fallen. Meanwhile, a LEGO X-Wing costs $59.99.

So for $25 anyone can work on a project that uses computers at its heart, and if something breaks, they can just go buy a new one. This makes small Linux computers like the Raspberry Pi and Arduino boards the hardware DIYers’ new LEGO bricks.   Last month, tens of thousands of makers from around the world came together at Maker Faire. Kids were begging their parents to help them build RC planes, buy them kits with Arduino boards and learning how to solder.

Many of the kits these kids were using weren’t made by billion dollar corporations – they were made by cottage industry electronics businesses, hobbyists, and “fantrepreneurs.” Yes, as Chris Anderson says in his new book “Makers”, we are at the start of a hardware revolution – led from the ground up, in your home.
